Today, we would like to share some useful tips about the Columbian Boa Constrictor.

Its scientific name is Boa constrictor imperator.  This snake can grow to an average length between 4 and 9 feet.  However, in some cases females can grow to a length of over 10 feet.   

Newborn baby boa snakes are sold when they are approximately 16 to 22 inches in length.   

If your preference is for your Columbian boa to be a little larger, we do offer one that is approximately 3 feet long for $129.99. 

Should you purchase a baby Columbian boa you should put your pet in a 10-gallon tank with a screen and lid for safekeeping.  Beechdale Animal Supplies does sell 10-gallon tanks that would be appropriate.   

As your boa constrictor continues to grow, you should upgrade to larger aquariums. 

It is also recommended that you keep fresh bedding in the aquarium for your boa.  Remember to clean out the bedding on a regular basis. 

Place a water bowl inside your aquarium.  The water bowl should be large enough for your Columbian boa to get into and soak without spilling the water out.

It is important to remember that the Columbian boa constrictor comes from a tropical environment.  Basically, you want to create a hot side of your aquarium with the help of a 10-20 gallon aquarium-heating pad.   

This will allow the hot side of your aquarium to maintain a temperature of around 90 degrees.  It is important to not allow the cool side of your tank to fall below 78 degrees. 

You should also try to maintain humidity in your aquarium for your boa.  This can be accomplished by keeping your water bowl very warm and regularly misting your aquarium with warm water.  There are no special lighting requirements for this snake, only that there be light during the day and dark at night. 

Newborn Columbian boas can usually digest mouse fuzzies.  As your pet continues to grow, you will have to feed larger rodents. 

A full-grown Columbian boa can digest jumbo rats or even possibly 3 to 4 lb. rabbits.
